Company Profile

Springbok Aviation Academy is owned and operated by Chief Flying Instructor André Middel since 1987.

André has been involved in flight training since 1976 and has accumulated 21000 hours of flight experience, of which 15000  as instructor. During the course of 2008, he was joined by his son Rohard to assist with flight training. Beginning 2009 two more instructors, Peter-Michael Cloete and Heinrich Rehr were employed to meet the growing demand with the increasing number of students. They all did their initial training with SAA, are well acquainted with each other and all share a passion for flying.

The School operates out of Mossel Bay Airfield which has a 1126m tarred runway and adequate lighting for night flying. The airfield is situated in a designated training area where minimum time is wasted by holding delays experienced at all bigger airports. Once students start flying solo,  they are then introduced to the busier controlled airspace of the nearby George regional airport, 18nm from Mossel Bay. George is served with daily connecting flights from Cape Town & Johannesburg for students from abroad.

Mossel Bay is blessed with some of the most moderate climates in the world but fresh S-E and S-W prevailing winds allow for a high standard of proficiency in crosswind take-offs and landings. The Mossel Bay Aero Club offers a bar and restaurant facility. Other activities at the airfield include skydiving, micro-light training and model aircraft flying, and an adjacent horse riding school. The beautiful scenery with frequent sightings of whales, great white sharks, dolphins and seals, makes training here even more enjoyable. A variety of accommodation is available from Hotels, guest houses, apartments and a bunk house at the Airfield.
